The Occultist is a slugcat. They are dark blue and fluffy; they wear a cloak slightly darker than their fur that is stained with bluefruit juices to give it its color.
Gameplay
The Occultist has five food pips, and is capable of storing three food pips for the next cycle.
The Occultist starts with the same stats as Monk, and gets tired after throwing more than two items in a short period of time; however, every Passage they gain unlocks a new ability for them:
- Monk lets the Occultist gain an extra food pip from vegetarian food. (Mutually exclusive with Hunter.)
- Hunter lets the Occultist gain an extra food pip from meat, and lets them eat from corpses. (Mutually exclusive with Monk.)
- Saint makes the Occultist harder to notice. (Mutually exclusive with Outlaw.)
- Outlaw increases the Occultist's damage output to that of the Hunter. (Mutually exclusive with Saint.)
- Chieftain lets the Occultist give commands to Scavengers. These commands are the same as those you can give to Slugpups.
- Dragon Slayer applies the effect of Vulture Masks to the Occultist. This does not stack with said masks' effect. (Mutually exclusive with Friend.)
- Friend makes Lizards neutral towards the Occultist, regardless of individual reputation. This does not un-tame tamed Lizards. (Mutually exclusive with Dragon Slayer.)
- Martyr raises the Occultist's minimum Karma to 3.
- Mother lets the Occultist tame Slugpups on sight and gives them hints towards what their pups' favorite foods are.
The Occultist can only have five Passages active at once, and is barred from gaining any non-permanent Passages once they reach the maximum. All Passages can be lost, as failure to perform the action that grants the Passage for more than two cycles will reset progress on that Passage.
These Passages, once gained, cannot be lost & their effects are permanent:
- Survivor raises the Occultist's stats to that of Survivor's.
- Wanderer increases the Occultist's movement speed to that of the Hunter's.
- Scholar lets the Occultist read pearls themself; their readings are highly silly and not actually helpful to gameplay.
- Nomad allows the Occultist to sense where Karma Gates are, even if they haven't been visited before.
- Pilgrim unlocks an alternate ending for the Occultist's campaign.
The Occultist's diet is the same as Survivor's by default.
Story
The Occultist was born in the Dead Woods, near Love Frozen in Time, and lived with a colony of slugcats that often visited LFIT. When they reached maturity, the Occultist left their colony for reasons known only to them.
